Day 295: Las Vegas

Monday May 30th
I awoke just before 8am, but unfortunately didn’t have any time to relax in my own hotel room (you have no idea how excited I was about having my own room). After showering and packing, I called the girls and told them I was checking out, and they should meet me in the lobby at 9am.
All checked out, Lucy and Tamsyn wanted to eat at the Hard Rock Café for breakfast, which was directly opposite the hotel. However it didn’t open until 11am! Luckily I’d checked out the location of the nearest Denny’s as a back-up plan, and we set off down to the Strip in the soaring heat. The girls were sweating up a storm, as they were wearing their cold weather gear to save room in their bags!
As we approached Denny’s, we noticed there was a Hard Rock Café next door, and this one was actually open, so in we went. I was dying for a thickshake, and asked for the biggest one ‘imaginable’. The server said I could upsize to one of the souvenir cups for an extra $3 (which held more drink), so I accepted. As the food came out, I was coughing up an absolute storm, barely able to breathe. Just when I thought I couldn’t feel any worse, I took one bite of my toast and felt something move in my tooth. Thinking maybe a filling had come loose, I went into the bathroom to have a look, and a whole piece of my tooth came out! Man, could I have any worse luck today?
As the girls only had a few hours left before their flight, I soldiered on, vowing to find a doctor (although maybe avoiding a dentist – it would probably cost an arm and a leg, and I’ll be home in less than 3 weeks!) We were right by the two storey Coke store and four storey M&M store, which we all went a little crazy in. Seriously, four floors of M&Ms and souvenirs? Amazing!
One thing that Lucy didn’t want to miss before leaving was Caesar’s Palace, so after a detour for the fountain show at Bellagio, we walked across to Caesar’s. The architecture in these buildings is amazing – could you imagine being the architect and/or interior designer and letting your imagination go wild?
At 2pm, we taxied it back to the hotel and said our good-byes to Lucy and Tamsyn, who were on a 5pm flight to London. Sharyn and I shared a taxi to our hotels, which were directly opposite each other, and vowed to meet up tomorrow (we had originally planned to see Human Nature tonight, but there was no way I could go out to a show with my coughing fits!)
After a long queue at check-in (there are over 5,000 hotel rooms after all at MGM), I finally made my way into the hotel room. It was really beautiful – new and large – and I sunk into the bed, watching TV and playing on my laptop. I only left the room to make a quick trip to the chemist for cough medicine and McDonalds for dinner (it was easy and close), then fell asleep in my luxurious bed ….
